Springfield Police, with the help of their K9 Unit, arrested a Connecticut man on gun-related charges following a call to Blunt Park yesterday early morning. According to the Springfield Police Department’s Facebook post, 22-year-old Abraham Harris of Broad Brook was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.
Police responded to a report of a gun at the park around 2:20 a.m. and saw several individuals leaving the area. Harris ran from the scene while appearing to carry an item by his side. He climbed a fence but was later detained with help from the Springfield Fire Department, which provided access to the locked area.
K9 Officer Jacob Boudreau and his dog, Taz, later found a loaded firearm with 12 rounds of ammunition near the fence Harris had climbed. Harris is now facing charges including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a high-capacity magazine, and breaking and entering a building at night for a felony. He also had an outstanding warrant for operating a motor vehicle without a license.
