St. Louis is paving the way for a more connected and safer city with the initiation of construction on the Tower Grove Connector. The project, which began yesterday, is designed to create a 1.8-mile protected bicycle and pedestrian path, linking Tower Grove Park to the Cortex Innovation Community and expanding the reach of the Brickline Greenway. Funded primarily by federal grants through the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Program, the local East-West Gateway Council of Governments administers the program. Additional financial support comes from the City of St. Louis, GSL investors, and local businesses, foundations, and organizations, as reported by FirstAlert4.

The initiative aims to fully integrate community resources and promote inclusive economic growth across St. Louis. Penny Pennington, co-chair of the Brickline Greenway Campaign, emphasized the joint effort, stating, "We are united in our commitment to the Brickline Greenway and its potential to drive inclusive economic development and strengthen community connections across St. Louis. This is a transformative project—one that sets a national standard." This statement was obtained by FirstAlert4 in their recent coverage of the development.

The Tower Grove Connector stands to notably upgrade essential infrastructure, with improvements ranging from sidewalks and crosswalks to the complicated intersection at Vandeventer and Tower Grove Avenue. Traffic-calming measures are also planned to further enhance safety, along with a repaving of Tower Grove Avenue. "In St. Louis, we have seen too many lives lost and changed forever due to traffic violence. The public has been demanding safer streets, safer infrastructure and this project is a direct response to that call," Mense told BayNews9.

Set for completion by fall of 2026, the first phase of the project will cover Tower Grove Avenue up to Vandeventer. The subsequent 0.4 mile-stretch, including Sara Street north from Vandeventer to Forest Park Avenue, expects to see construction begin in the following year. With this initiative, Mayor Cara Spencer has indicated that such improvements are anticipated not only to elevate the quality of life for current St. Louis residents but to also attract new visitors and potential residents to the city.
