Juneteenth in St. Louis Park was more than a commemoration this year – it was a festive convergence of community and culture on wheels, as reported in a recent social media post from the City of St. Louis Park. The Recreation Outdoor Center (ROC) transformed into a vibrant hub for skaters and families, celebrating the historical significance of the day and creating new traditions in the process.
The "Epic Juneteenth Celebration: Rollin’ at the ROC" event attracted over 200 community members, who took the opportunity to groove to DJ Presto's beats, witness the skillful display by Wheels of Expression: Minnesota, and savor the flavors of Ralph's Rib Crib's BBQ. Twin Cities Skaters was also present to provide free skate lessons to enthusiasts and first-timers alike, ensuring an inclusive experience for all participants. Despite the fun, there was a small hiccup, as the post read, "With beats from DJ Presto, an electrifying show by Wheels of Expression: Minnesota and mouthwatering BBQ from Ralph's Rib Crib, the celebration was non-stop fun."
A significant nod was given to St. Louis Park Community Education and the St. Louis Park Library for amplifying the Juneteenth spirit throughout the city. It's clear that events like these not only serve as entertainment but also as powerful platforms for education about the past and discussions on how communities can progress forward together.
The post concluded with a forward-looking sentiment, encouraging residents to "keep Rollin’ forward together." Such community-driven gatherings, anchored in historical reflection and infused with local talent and business, underscore the importance of the Juneteenth holiday as a time to both remember and to rejoice. And they, according to City of St. Louis Park, "let’s keep Rollin’ forward together."
