The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) took to the streets after midnight Saturday, upon receiving reports of cars performing dangerous maneuvers in the Ellendale neighborhood on the 6500 block of Manchester Avenue.
According to KSDK, as the officers approached with emergency lights and sirens blaring, the cars began to scatter, speeding away from law enforcement. The next course of action was the use of spike strips, which resulted in numerous spiked vehicle tires. The intention behind such an enforcement measure was clear: to deliver the message that reckless driving would not go unchecked in the city.
Remarkably, despite the potentially dangerous situation, there were no crashes or personal injuries reported in connection with the stunt driving incident, First Alert 4 notes. However, SLMPD has yet to make any arrests related to the event. Officers remain vigilant, monitoring for any resurgence of similar activities that threaten public safety.
"The spiking of these fleeing vehicles sends a clear message — this reckless behavior is not welcome in St. Louis and we will continue to enforce the law," a statement from SLMPD to KSDK declared.
