The City of St. Peters is gearing up for the celebration of Independence Day with a reminder to residents about changes in municipal services during the holiday. According to a press release from the city government, key public facilities like the City Hall, Cultural Arts Centre, and the Police Records Division will be taking a day off on July 4. As families prepare to mark the nation's birthday with fireworks and festivities, they're advised to plan around these closures.
There will be a pause in some of the regular amenities for the day. The Earth Centre and Recycle City, also included in the closures, won't be processing trash, recycling or yard waste that day. As noted in the City of St. Peters' announcement, "Trash disposal, Earth Centre product sales, and yard waste drop-off are closed on Independence Day." For residents used to setting out their bins on a weekday timetable, adjustments will be necessary. The remainder of the week will see curbside collection delayed by one day, although the semi-annual bulky trash pickup schedule remains unchanged.
However, not all services are hitting the brakes for the Fourth. The St. Peters Rec-Plex still welcomes early risers and fitness enthusiasts by operating from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., a boon for those looking to get in a workout before the day's celebrations begin. Meanwhile, aquatic relief from the summer heat is still within reach as The Cove at St. Peters and the Laurel Park Pool both open their gates from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering a respite to sweltering citizens with their holiday hours.
For the environmentally conscientious, the Aytes Community Recycling Center at Recycle City provides a silver lining, staying open during daylight hours for recycling drop-off, even as other services take a breather. These operational details are crucial to residents whose holiday plans might include tidying up after backyard barbecues or disposing of the remnants of the previous day's revelry. While the floors of public offices may be quiet and lights dimmed, the pulse of city life finds its rhythm in the assurance that after a brief hiatus, services will "resume normal business hours on Saturday, July 5," as stated in the City of St. Peters' announcement.
