In a turn of events that seems lifted from the scripts of dark comedies, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office had an encounter with more than just a lead-footed driver on I-12 in Slidell. Sherida Graham, a 56-year-old resident of Sun, was pulled over while cruising in a Dodge Challenger, only to have narcotics detectives find a veritable trove of illicit substances hiding within the innocent facade of a children’s stuffed monkey backpack.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office took to social media to share the peculiar details of the bust, which yielded 362 grams of methamphetamine, 28 grams of marijuana, two THC vapes, and drug paraphernalia, all snugly packed within the plush confines of a child's toy. The officers found no children present at the scene – just Graham, who they suggested must have believed that a fuzzy decoy could dupe law enforcement.
According to a Facebook post by the STPSO, Graham was swiftly arrested and taken to what they have colloquially dubbed "Club St. Tammany." Among the charges she faces are possession with intent to distribute meth, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The cheeky social media update also counseled, "Next time Sherida…try packing snacks …not felonies."
The St. Tammany Parish's post signed off with a pair of playful hashtags: #YouCantPackThatSherida and #BackpackFullOfFelonies, a nod to the unusual nature of this case.
