A routine traffic stop on Perry Road by Troutman Police Department officers led to the arrest of a Statesville man on multiple drug charges, as detailed in a social media post by the department. The incident, which unfolded last Thursday, began when officers spotted a vehicle with an expired registration plate and proceeded to initiate a stop around 10:00 a.m.
During the stop, a K9 officer from the department's unit, along with K9 Luka, performed a free air sniff around the vehicle. According to the Troutman Police Department's Facebook page, Luka indicated the presence of narcotics near the front fender. The subsequent search led to the discovery of methamphetamine hidden behind a fender well in the engine compartment, along with a bag of marijuana.
The driver, identified as 62-year-old Dennis Miller of Statesville, now faces charges including possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Troutman Police reported that Miller was taken before a magistrate after his arrest and was ordered held on a $5,000.00 secure bond.
