Drivers in Farmington Hills are bracing for a summer of detours as Halsted Road is set to close for a major reconstruction project starting today. The stretch between 8 Mile and 9 Mile Roads will be blocked off to through traffic, with an initial closure impacting the section from 8 Mile Road for drainage updates, according to a report by ClickOnDetroit. Local traffic will still flow southbound from 9 Mile Road during the first two to three weeks of construction.
Following the initial phase, the barricades will migrate north of St. Andrew Kim Korean Catholic Church, shuttering Halsted Road up to 9 Mile for the remaining duration of the project. During this period, residents can access their neighborhoods northbound from 8 Mile to the church, and those living off Halsted Road north of the church can still reach their homes from 9 Mile Road entries. A detour will be in place to assist motorists, guiding them westbound on the mile roads to Haggerty Road to navigate around the disruption.
The City of Farmington Hills has voiced awareness of the inconveniences such projects can cause and is asking for the community's patience while the work is carried out.
