Residents of St. Charles Parish should brace for the hum of machinery and the scent of fresh asphalt as road maintenance continues to roll out this summer, with a series of road closures to facilitate asphalt resurfacing works. Barriere Construction, the firm at the wheel of the maintenance program, is patching, milling, and paving across various locales. In a recent statement by St. Charles Parish, the schedule for the next wave of roadworks, which began last Friday, was outlined.
The outlined schedule includes Schexnaydre Lane in Destrehan undergoing patching operations from LA 48 to the dead end, while Gassen Street in Luling is set for milling from Hackberry Street to the railroad tracks; concurrently, all streets within the Bar None Subdivision in St. Rose are getting a fresh paving, as well as both Schexnaydre Lane and Gassen Street having to face flaggers directing traffic intermittently, the construction will also impact local businesses with Ormond Center Court in Destrehan facing obstruction from 150 Ormond Center Court (Rotolo's Pizza) to 3001 Ormond Blvd (Buddy's Frostop) where a detour has been set up to guide vehicles through the affected area.
More road closures are planned in the coming weeks. In Luling, Paul Fredrick Street will be paved and North Oak Court will be milled, with flaggers on site. Patching will also take place on Adams Street and Killona Drive in Killona, where flaggers will help manage traffic. In Bayou Gauche, Badeaux Lane East, and in Luling, East Heather Drive, will also see patching and milling, with flaggers present to guide drivers.
The announcement also noted that work on the Kerry’s Pointe ramp lift, which began on May 5, will continue to cause delays for several weeks, affecting traffic between Badeaux Lane and Kerry’s Pointe. As with other ongoing projects, this is part of broader infrastructure improvements. Officials advise drivers to plan for extra travel time and follow signs and flaggers to stay safe. Schedules may change depending on the weather.
