After a tense confrontation in Obetz, Ohio, the suspect in the shooting of two Mifflin Township Police Officers has been apprehended. The standoff, which unfolded at a local apartment complex, resulted in the suspect sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to a social media post by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the individual was taken into custody yesterday, bringing an end to the search following the initial incident that occurred two days prior.
The situation began with a traffic stop last Wednesday that quickly escalated when the suspect, Daveonte Dixon, fled and subsequently opened fire on the officers. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office detailed this account of the events leading up to Dixon's capture in the aftermath of a multi-agency effort that culminated in Friday's operation. Deputies, upon arriving on-site, heard gunfire from within the apartment before the SWAT team made their entry and discovered Dixon injured by his hand; no deputies fired their weapons in the altercation.
While one Mifflin Township Police officer has been released from the hospital, the second wounded officer remains under medical care. Dixon is now facing serious charges, specifically: one count of Attempted Murder, and two counts of Felonious Assault.
