Nevada State Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the 2024 Sun Valley arson case. On November 21, 2024, Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of an attempted arson at a home in Sun Valley. The homeowner said the fire was set while a minor child was inside, but the child was not hurt. The fire damaged the outside of the home and was believed to have been started with flammable liquids, as stated by the Nevada State Police.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division, working with the Nevada State Fire Marshal, collected surveillance footage and witness statements that identified Phillip Headley as the main suspect. Headley was already in custody at the Washoe County Detention Facility on separate charges, as reported by the Nevada State Police.
On June 6, Headley was formally charged with First Degree Arson related to the 2024 Sun Valley fire, according to the Nevada State Police on their Facebook page. Investigators have not released details about the evidence behind the charge.
