Early this morning in Brazoria County, an incident unfolded that ended with a suspect dead following a high-speed chase and a deputy-involved shooting. As reported by Click2Houston, authorities were called to a scene near Hwy 288 and Sandy Point Loop in Rosharon, after a woman alerted them about a man with outstanding assault warrants possibly heading toward her home.
Not located at the woman’s residence when deputies arrived, a vehicle matching the man’s description was later noticed by officials committing a traffic violation. Pursuing into the neighborhood of the caller, the driver sped away when deputies attempted to pull over the car, instigating a chase detailed in a statement obtained by KHOU. The pursuit continued with the vehicle going the wrong way on a highway before it crashed into a ditch, after which the suspect fled on foot into a wooded area.
A perimeter was established by deputies, and K-9 units, drones, and additional officers were brought in to assist. In the woods, the man presented a knife while an attempt was being made to arrest him by officials, leading to at least two deputies discharging their firearms. "He was flown to a Houston-area hospital, where investigators say he died from his injuries," as per the report by Click2Houston.
The Brazoria County Sheriff's Office remarked on the commitment to citizen safety following the incident. "The safety of our citizens remains our top priority," they said in a statement obtained by KHOU, emphasizing their gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community. The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure while an internal investigation, along with a separate inquiry conducted by the Texas Rangers, is underway.
