Jacksonville authorities are piecing together the details of a business robbery that reportedly took place yesterday morning in the 100 block of Busch Drive. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) disclosed that a robbery was reported at approximately 11:50 a.m., where a suspect is said to have demanded money from the business representative. Following the incident, an undetermined amount of cash was confirmed missing, as stated by Action News Jax.
A suspect was detained later on Saturday, and his description matched that given by witnesses — a white male with a reddish-auburn beard, estimated to be in his late 30s, about 5 feet 8 inches in height, seen wearing a ball cap and a green t-shirt. According to the same outlet, the suspect fled the scene in a white Honda. Despite intimating that he was armed with a note, no weapon was actually shown to the business representative during the course of the robbery, and no injuries were reported responding to the 911 call, a K-9 unit was dispatched and the suspect vehicle was subsequently stopped.
An ongoing investigation by JSO is underway, with law enforcement officers working to confirm the full extent of the detained individual's involvement in the crime. First Coast News quoted Lt. Etrych explaining at a press conference, "We are in the process of determining the level of that individual's involvement," and assuring that there "does not appear to be any threat to the community."
Despite initial reports suggesting an unarmed robbery, News4Jax later clarified that the suspect had handed a note to the business representative claiming possession of a weapon to ensure compliance in handing over the money. The amount of money stolen remains undisclosed, while JSO has yet to release further details regarding the robbery and any charges the detained man might be facing. The public is encouraged to stay tuned for updates as the investigation continues.
