A man was hospitalized following a shootout with the police close to the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) campus on Wednesday evening. According to the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT), the confrontation began around 8:12 p.m. when a Greeley Police officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on 18th Street near the UNC grounds. The officer was pursuing a man wanted on an active felony warrant, as reported by 9NEWS.

The man exited his vehicle with a firearm and started to hurriedly run, prompting officers to engage in a foot chase through the campus. The 19th Judicial CIRT revealed that the man fired his weapon, leading officers to quickly return fire. The details, including the number of officers involved in the shooting and the shots fired at the man, have not been disclosed,  as per The Denver Post.

Authorities have confirmed that no officers or bystanders were harmed during the incident. CIRT further indicated that there is no continuing threat to the public. While the university was on summer break, summer classes continued on campus during the event.
