A man suspected in a Charlotte homicide case has been apprehended in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Jefry Edgardo Gonzalez Artica, 22, is linked to the death of Javier Lee Martinez Hernandez, also 22, who was fatally shot in northeast Charlotte this past April. According to WBTV, Artica was arrested on Wednesday and is pending extradition to face first-degree murder charges in Charlotte.
Law enforcement agencies, including the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), the Charlotte and New Orleans divisions of the FBI, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, collaborated in the arrest. Artica was identified as suspect during an ongoing homicide investigation that began on April 13, after officers found Hernandez shot to death in the 200 block of Eastway Drive. QC News noted that the tragic discovery of Hernandez occurred following a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon.
Following his arrest in Louisiana, CMPD detectives flew out to interview Artica, said WSOCTV. The specifics of this conversation have not been made public, but it is part of a larger, ongoing investigation. The legal process continues with Artica awaiting extradition proceedings that will eventually reconduct him to Charlotte.
