The chapter of a long-drawn case began to fold when Isiah Michael Lobban, a 21-year-old Salisbury man, was extradited to North Carolina yesterday. As reported by WBTV, Lobban is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the 2022 Kannapolis shooting death of Kenon Lamonte Jones. According to QC News, he had just completed a sentence in South Carolina for unrelated charges before being returned to face the pending allegations.
The incident that brought the case to such prolonged attention occurred on June 22, 2022, when officers were dispatched to a shooting at 601 S. Cannon Boulevard in Kannapolis. Law enforcement found the 26-year-old Jones fatally shot. It did not take long for the authorities to quickly identify Lobban as a suspect. However, prior to his arrest, he was taken into custody on July 5, 2022, in South Carolina, effectively pausing the pursuit of justice in North Carolina.
WCNC Charlotte notes that following his extradition, Lobban was processed at the Cabarrus County Magistrate's Office, where he was denied bond and placed in the Cabarrus County Jail. This marks the next step in a three-year investigation ever since Jones' death first cast a shadow over the Kannapolis community.
Lobban is scheduled to show up in court on Sunday, and until then, he will remain in custody. The charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon loom over Lobban, who was but a teenager at the time of the alleged crime.
