In a routine traffic stop turned arms seizure, Santa Rosa Police Department officers apprehended a 21-year-old man from Lincoln yesterday. The stop occurred around 8:23 PM at the intersection of Mendocino Avenue and Bicentennial Way for a vehicle with tinted windows darker than legally allowed, as per the Santa Rosa Police Department.
As the stop unfolded, officers claimed to have quickly noticed the unmistakable scent of marijuana wafting from the vehicle. Further observation by law enforcement revealed open containers of the substance in plain view. The driver, identified as Thomas Mccloud, was detained without incident following these discoveries. A subsequent search, justified by probable cause, led to the discovery of a loaded 9mm Glock 19 in Mccloud's satchel.
Mccloud now faces multiple charges, a result of what might have been a routine violation of traffic law escalating swiftly to concerns over public safety and gun control. The Santa Rosa Police detailed the charges as possession of a loaded unregistered firearm in public, possession of a concealed firearm on person, and a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. The accused was booked into Sonoma County Jail under these serious allegations.
