Commuters in Tarrant County are set for another weekend of detours and delays as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) continues its work on the Southeast Connector Project. According to an announcement on the City of Arlington's website, eastbound I-20 will be fully closed at Business 287 starting from 11 p.m. Friday, June 27 until 9 a.m. Saturday, June 28, for construction activities, weather permitting.

The massive $2.1 billion infrastructure project aims to revamp and expand about 16 miles of roadway in a bid to alleviate traffic, enhance safety, and improve efficiency for the Metroplex area. The undertaking is extensive, involving sections of I-20, I-820, and US 287, with an expected completion date set for 2027.

TxDOT has advised drivers to seek alternative routes where possible and factor in extra travel time to their journeys. The official detour will redirect eastbound traffic on I-20 to the frontage road. Additionally, the speed limit within the entire corridor has been lowered to 55 mph. More details on closures and alternate paths can be found on the Southeast Connector Project website.

Further closures throughout the weekend include the full closure of southbound I-820 at SH 180/Lancaster Avenue from 9 p.m. Saturday, June 28, from 4 p.m. to Sunday, June 29, weather permitting. Traffic will be directed to an appropriately signed detour route via the frontage road. Meanwhile, the I-820 and US 287 interchange will also experience full closure during the same period, with detours in place for the affected directions.
