
Last night, tragedy struck when a 15-year-old girl was shot in the hand in the Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood, as reported by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. The incident, which occurred in the 5500 block of Dr Martin Luther King Drive, was a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by communities grappling with gun violence.
Around 12:45 a.m., District 5 officers responded to a call regarding the shooting. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department's statement, they found the girl and her parent at a nearby hospital. Despite being injured, the teen reported that the incident happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. while she was with friends, they heard arguing followed, by gunshots.
The young victim recounted the harrowing experience, saying, "They heard arguing and then gunshots in the area. The 15-year-old then felt pain in her hand and ran home." She was later taken to the hospital by private means, indicating the immediate confusion and urgency that often accompanies such violent episodes, as per SLMPD.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and at this stage, no further details have been released about potential suspects or the circumstances leading up to the incident.
