A Chattanooga, Tennessee man has been charged with multiple counts of rape and kidnapping following an incident involving a 15-year-old girl in Grandview Heights, Ohio, according to local police reports. The suspect, 31-year-old Davarus Delaney, is accused of sexually assaulting the teenager after arranging to meet her at a hotel following several months of communication through social media.
The Grandview Heights Division of Police stated that officers responded to Nationwide Children’s Hospital on May 4, where the victim reported the assault that occurred beginning on April 28, Delaney forcibly raped her "multiple times over the course of two days," and employed a firearm to threaten her, the victim alleged to the police, not allowing her to leave the hotel room and at one point suffocating her with a pillow, ABC6 reports.
Following the investigation, Delaney was apprehended on June 5 in Tennessee by the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force and the Chattanooga Police Department. He was extradited to Ohio to face his charges, WBNS disclosed. During interrogation, Delaney admitted to engaging in sexual conduct with the teen and was aware of her age at the time of the offense, the police indicated.
In court, Franklin County Municipal Court Judge James Green set Delaney's bond at $550,000 during yesterday hearing, while prosecutors charged Delaney with two counts each of rape and kidnapping but the investigation is still active and ongoing and police said additional charges are expected to be filed against Delaney as further details are revealed, The Columbus Dispatch reported. Grandview Heights police have encouraged anyone with further information to come forward and contact Det. Drew Brubaker at 614-488-7901.
