Leesburg has witnessed the culmination of a relentless investigation with the arrest of Jasmine Tynise Gainey, the third suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of 87-year-old Clarence Ervin at a Citgo gas station in 2024. Gainey, 21, now faces charges including first-degree premeditated homicide and aggravated battery with a firearm on a victim over 65, as highlighted in the statements from the Leesburg Police Department.
According to Leesburg-News, after police arrived at the scene last year on September 28, it was discovered that Ervin was sitting in his vehicle when three suspects approached him at the gas station located at 2101 W Main St. In what became a deadly altercation, Ervin was shot. Despite efforts to save him, including surgery performed that night, Ervin succumbed to his injuries on October 6. Jasmine Gainey, arrested Thursday following a confrontation with a customer in a Wendy's drive-thru in December 2024 and previously being seen stealing $50 off a vape shop counter in January, is reportedly linked to the crime alongside two other men who were already in custody, according to the reports.
The two additional suspects, Kenneth Dalon Bailey and Craig Anthony Stevenson Jr., both from Leesburg and aged 22 at the time of their arrests, were charged with capital murder and aggravated battery shortly after the incident. Bailey, having been found guilty of murder, was sentenced to 45 years in prison back in March. Stevenson's role and subsequent legal proceedings were not immediately detailed in the reports obtained from the sources.
