The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken three individuals into custody in connection with an alleged kidnapping and aggravated assault that transpired in Soperton, Treutlen County. Arrestees include Dean Tanner, 30, from Tarrytown; Lauren Bailey, 43, from Vidalia; and Jeff Sconyers, 51, also from Vidalia. The trio now faces a litany of charges following a harrowing sequence of events that reportedly began on Tarrytown Road and extended to multiple counties. According to Georgia Bureau of Investigation's official report, the victim was physically assaulted, kidnapped, and later subject to further abuse in a subsequent location.
Adding to an already grave situation, an additional warrant for aggravated battery has been issued for Tanner in Treutlen County. The severity of the charges against Tanner, Bailey, and Sconyers highlights the multi-faceted nature of the crime, encompassing alleged aggravated assault, aggravated battery, burglary, and false imprisonment. It's reported that the victim was further assaulted, eventually rendering them unconscious, in a home located on Pine Street in Vidalia, a property tied to the Bailey's warehouse business. There, the assailants allegedly conducted a search for items they believed the victim had stolen.
The investigation reveals a disturbing extension, where the accused then transported the victim to a remote woodland area in Ailey, Montgomery County, where the victim was sexually assaulted. Currently, all three are charged with aggravated assault and kidnapping relevant to the crimes committed in Soperton, Treutlen County. However, given the sprawling nature of this case, additional charges are anticipated in both Toombs and Montgomery Counties.
Officials took the suspects into custody on May 29, according to the same Georgia Bureau of Investigation release, and they are currently being held at the Treutlen County Jail. As the GBI continues its investigation, the assembled evidence and findings will eventually be handed over to the offices of the district attorney in the Dublin Judicial Circuit, the Middle Judicial Circuit, and the Oconee District to determine prosecution for the alleged crimes.
