Six people lost their lives in a vehicular calamity in Osceola County last night, following a head-on collision on State Road 60. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), as WFTV reported, confirmed the deadly incident, which involved a semi-truck and a 2024 Hyundai Tucson.
Trying to pass, the Hyundai's driver entered the eastbound lane and lost control while attempting to merge back into the westbound flow. The aftermath was catastrophic: both vehicles became engulfed after the Hyundai collided with the oncoming semi-truck, trapping its occupants inside. The FOX 35 Orlando coverage added that the occupants, believed to include three adults and three children, were pronounced deceased at the scene by the authorities.
Witnesses and emergency responders described a horrific tableau as the two vehicles were engulfed in fire. The driver of the semi, although suffering from the impact, was transported to Indian River Hospital with injuries described as minor.
As the flames were finally extinguished, details emerged about the vehicles involved. The 2011 semi-truck, according to FHP statements acquired by FOX 35 Orlando, collided with the Hyundai when its left side struck the semi's front. Identification of the victims is ongoing, with the Medical Examiner's Office diligently working to confirm their identities and notify next of kin.
The FHP continues to investigate the precise dynamics leading up to the crash. While current indications point towards a tragic loss of vehicle control, authorities are thorough in the exploration of all factors that might have played a role. This story remains under development, with further updates promised as they become available.
