A heartbreaking incident unfolded over the weekend at Millennium Park, where a 6-year-old was found dead in the water after being reported missing, said the Kent County Sheriff’s Office. Family members were supervising the child, who went underwater and could not be revived despite immediate resuscitation efforts by rescue teams. The name of the child has yet to be released to the public, MLive reports.
An extensive search was conducted by multiple agencies, including fire, police, and marine units that responded to the incident. In addition to these efforts, community members at the park formed human chains to assist in the search for the child. After the child was found underwater, "lifesaving efforts began immediately, but the child couldn't be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene," according to a statement obtained by WZZM 13.
"Our thoughts are with the family and all who were impacted by this heartbreaking loss," said the Kent County Sheriff’s Office. "Tragedies on the water can unfold quickly—please continue to keep this family in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time." This sentiment was echoed by the Kent County Parks Department, who also expressed deep sadness and offered condolences to everyone touched by the tragedy, as reported by WZZM 13.
