A tragic sequence of events unfolded on Magnolia road as deputies were called to investigate an alleged murder-suicide involving family members, resulting in a heavy police presence throughout the day. CW39 reported that Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputies confirmed the death of a 77-year-old man, Jeffry Love, who was found in his home with multiple head injuries, after they conducted a welfare check at around 9 a.m.
Almost concurrently, a car crash occurred, and the investigation linked the two incidents when the deceased driver of the Toyota SUV, identified as 35-year-old Nicholas Petropolis, Love's adult stepson, was discovered to be responsible for the earlier homicide. Deputies surmised that a grieving wife found her husband dead around 8:52 a.m., and she alerted the authorities after stumbling upon the violent scene at their residence on the 37400 block of FM 149.
According to Click2Houston, witnesses observed the Toyota SUV driven by Petropolis accelerate abruptly and veer into oncoming traffic before colliding head-on with a dump truck, mere moments and approximately 100 yards from where Love was discovered. The aftermath of the collision pronounced Petropolis dead at the scene while the truck's 59-year-old driver was hospitalized with injuries.
Dashcam footage provided by bystanders captured the entire collision, offering another piece to the troubling puzzle investigators are working to solve as they piece together the events that led to the fatal outcomes. The heinous discovery near Love's body—a machete—adds a macabre detail to the incident, which authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide between family members, as per reports from both news outlets.
