
An unfortunate event unfolded at the Ottawa Executive Airport in Zeeland Township yesterday when a small fixed-wing airplane crashed, resulting in the death of one individual. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office reported to WOODTV that the incident occurred around 10:50 a.m., with deputies responding to the scene after receiving calls about the crash.
Upon arrival, responding units discovered a heavily damaged aircraft just outside the runway on airport property. The sole occupant of the aircraft, a man from Ottawa County, did not survive. His identity has yet to be disclosed while the next of kin are notified. WZZM 13 notes that Ottawa County Central Dispatch was first alerted to the crash before the emergency teams were dispatched.
The circumstances that led to this tragedy remain unclear, with the accident now under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. An ongoing review of the incident will soon be turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration, as mentioned in a release posted by MLive.
