Starting next Wednesday, residents and commuters in Schuyler, Scotland, and Clark counties should prepare for delays as seal coat work is set to begin on U.S. Route 136. The operation will start near Medill in Clark County and stretch to the Scotland County line near Downing, according to MoDOT's announcement. Crews will then continue the work to U.S. Route 63 at Lancaster in Schuyler County.
The roadway will be reduced to one lane in areas where work is being conducted and a 10-foot width restriction will also be implemented. To safely direct traffic through the work zone, flaggers and a pilot car are going to help manage the flow. Motorists can expect related signage and message boards strategically placed to provide updates as schedules potentially change.
This specific seal coat project falls under a larger $2.7M contract handed to W. L. Miller Company last year. An additional resurfacing project is scheduled to begin in mid-July on U.S. Route 136, from U.S. Route 63 in Schuyler County to just west of Route N near Livonia in Putnam County. As with all such projects, the work and timing are subject to the whims of weather.
The Missouri Department of Transportation urges drivers to stay alert and obey all work zone signs and personnel. Motorists seeking further details or updates can reach out to MoDOT’s Customer Center at 1-888-ASK MODOT (275-6636).
