Trinity Health Grand Rapids Comprehensive Breast Center has been recognized as a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence by the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers (NQMBC), placing it among an elite group of only 36 breast cancer programs across the nation to hold this designation. As reported by WOODTV, the distinction is reserved for centers that meet rigorous quality standards in various aspects of breast cancer treatment and diagnosis. Trinity Health Grand Rapids shares this honor in Michigan with one other facility, the Trinity Health Breast Center – Lakes Village in Norton Shores.
"What this means is patients don’t have to choose between having really world-class care and care close to home: We can provide both of those for our patients," Dr. Bess Connors, a breast cancer surgeon who oversees the Grand Rapids center, said, in a statement obtained by WOODTV. This sentiment was echoed in an interview with WZZM13, where Dr. Connors detailed the center's efforts to provide top-tier care, emphasizing that the award is "a reflection of years of efforts."
According to an article by Trinity Health Michigan, the certification involves an annual review of center performance, which fosters continuous improvements, and reassures the community that exceptional care is available locally. The center is recognized for its comprehensive approach to breast health, offering services that include all-digital mammography, genetic counseling, and state-of-the-art treatments.
Dr. Connors told WZZM13, "We want our patients to be confident in the care they receive, and this is just one way we can demonstrate that care close to home can also be world-class care." The added, certification not only serves as a benchmark of excellence but also as a tool for the Trinity Health Grand Rapids Comprehensive Breast Center to measure its own performance against national standard.
