Texas Southern University Athletic Director Kevin Granger has been placed on administrative leave following allegations of sexual assault. A staff member filed a lawsuit, represented by the Buzbee Law Firm, claiming that Granger offered career advancement in exchange for sexual favors. The incident reportedly took place on April 30. In a statement to Click2Houston, the university said, "In alignment with out policies and values, we have initiated an independent investigation to ensure a fair and thorough review of the matter."
A lawsuit claims that Granger invited a female staff member to his office and asked if she was "recording him" or "wearing a wire." He then allegedly patted her down. According to KHOU, the lawsuit also states that Granger propositioned the woman for sex, groped her, and attempted to force her hand onto his genitals. During the incident, he allegedly suggested that cooperating with him could help her career.
Texas Southern University has responded to a lawsuit with a brief statement, saying it is aware of the allegations but will not comment on pending litigation. Texas Southern University stated, "Please be assured that Texas Southern University takes all allegations of misconduct seriously," as mentioned by Click2Houston. The lawsuit includes claims against a university staff member, Granger, for alleged misconduct in the athletic department. Reports have been filed with the Houston Police Department, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and TSU’s Human Resources. An internal investigation is ongoing.
