Tragedy struck in Tuscarawas County over the weekend with two fatal incidents that left the local community in mourning. According to Cleveland19, a motorcycle crash last night on US Route 250 in Goshen Township claimed the lives of Keith Morris, 47, and his passenger, Jill Morris, 44, neither of whom was wearing a helmet when the motorcycle they were on, which was pulling a camper trailer, lost control and slid off the road.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol relayed that the accident occurred at 8:11 p.m. and noted the trailer began to sway, leading the operator to lose control. This detail mirrors the report from WKYC, which also specified the model of the motorcycle as a 2003 Harley-Davidson. While Jill Morris was pronounced dead at the scene, Keith Morris was initially taken to the Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital and later airlifted to Akron General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, as reported by Cleveland 19 news.
In a separate and grim development, a suspected murder-suicide occurred just hours before a Dover Township graduation party was scheduled to start. Tuscarawas County sheriff's deputies discovered a 54-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman dead in their home on Gordon Road Northwest, as reported by FOX8. Sheriff Orvis Campbell confirmed the call to the residence came just after 1:30 p.m. yesterday.
The community is left reeling from the day's grim events; officials have yet to release the names of the deceased in the suspected murder-suicide, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol has stated that the crash involving the Morrises remains under investigation, they have stressed the importance of wearing helmets while operating or riding on motorcycles, "The operator and passenger of the motorcycle were not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash," authorities pointed out in statements obtained by both Cleveland19 and WKYC.
