Two individuals faced citations after reportedly overfishing in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. According to a release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Alex Arriola-Alverez, 48, of Connecticut, and Domingo Antonio Ramos Molina, 50, of Honduras, were cited for possessing an excess of Red Drum, a popular game fish. The incident occurred on May 22 near the Petit Caillou Public Boat Launch where the two were allegedly seen repeatedly catching and stashing fish to continue to illegally harvest.
The LDWF agents, after being alerted by a complainant, quickly responded to the scene. They found Arriola-Alverez and Molina returning to the launch in their boat, subsequently conducting an inspection that would reveal the duo to allegedly possess 22 Red Drum, which surpasses the daily allowance of four per licensed angler. Molina also faces extra charges for using his Honduran passport to falsely obtain resident fishing licenses. In a statement obtained by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, "Agents seized the fish and donated them to a local charity."
The violations carry significant penalties, with over-limit possession of Red Drum prompting up to a $350 fine. Molina's extra charge for obtaining licenses by fraud could result in a $250 to $500 fine along with the potential of up to 90 days in jail. The duo also stands to face civil restitution. Collectively, they may be liable for $361, accounting for the replacement value of the illegally taken fish. The agents credited with handling the case were Corporal Richard Bean and Senior Agent Troy Autin.
