Two Dallas police officers have found themselves on the wrong side of the law this June, with arrests for alcohol-related misdemeanors. According to the Dallas Police Department, Officer Elijah Walker, badge number 12538, was arrested on Tuesday by the Euless Police Department for Driving While Intoxicated. Walker, who joined the force in March 2023 and is currently assigned to the Central Patrol Division, is now on administrative leave as an Internal Affairs administrative investigation is underway.
The following day, Officer Jerrid Couch, badge number 12622, faced a similar situation. However, his charge was Public Intoxication, a Class C misdemeanor. The Dallas Police Department itself made the arrest. Couch has also been with the department since September 2023 and works in the Northeast Patrol Division. He, too, is on administrative leave pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs investigation.
Both instances are part of an escalating conversation about police behavior, on and off the clock, and the accountability mechanisms within law enforcement agencies. While the Dallas Police Department has not publicly detailed its policies on addressing officer misconduct, these two cases suggest the department does not hesitate to internally investigate and potentially discipline its own.
