Two arrests have been made in connection with the Setting Sun murder, which claimed the life of 23-year-old Edward Daquan Smith back in February. The El Paso Police Department, with the aid of the Army Criminal Investigation Division, confirmed the arrest of 21-year-old Howard Chevard Dyron Brock for murder.
The first suspect, 24-year-old Eric Lamarr Mathis, was arrested on March 24 and taken into custody at Ft Bliss. Both suspects are now being held at the El Paso County Detention Facility, with Brock's bond set at $1,000,000 and Mathis's at a higher $1,500,000, as reported by the El Paso Police Department.
The incident under investigation by Crimes Against Persons detectives took place late on February 28, when Smith was found with a fatal gunshot wound following a reported altercation at a large gathering in the 2100 block of Setting Sun, per police statements. Assistance from the community is sought by the authorities, urging anyone with information to get in touch via the non-emergency number or to reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
