Following a violent outburst at T.W. Briscoe Park in Snellville, police have detained two teenage suspects linked to the May 31 shooting. Joshua Semi Zere, 17, was apprehended last Wednesday, while Eric Meier-Harris, also 17, was taken into custody last Thursday, both facing multiple counts of aggravated assault charges—per a report by FOX 5 Atlanta.
The incident, which unfolded just before 9 p.m. at the park located at 2500 Sawyer Parkway, resulted in four teenagers, ranging from 14 to 17 years old, being rushed to the hospital with gunshot injuries, an additional victim declined EMS transport making the count of those injured five, however, their condition has been listed as stable this came from a follow-up announcement by the City of Snellville and relayed through a statement obtained by 11Alive.
Amidst ongoing inquiries handled cooperatively by the Snellville police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, authorities remain tight-lipped about possible motives behind the shooting; similarly, details behind a second, unrelated shooting that occurred less than 24 hours later at the same park, injuring one man, remain undisclosed.
In response to the shootings, Snellville Mayor Barbara Bender highlighted the city's stance, commenting, “These isolated incidents are extremely concerning and will not be tolerated,” further assuring the public that the park is and will continue to be safe for visitors, having amped up security measures including an increase in police patrols and private security hires; this move comes alongside planned enhancements to the park's lighting and installation of security cameras, the proactive approach was shared in a statement by 11Alive.
