Two teenage males, both 17, were shot while inside a vehicle in the Columbus Square neighborhood last night. The incident took place around 10:58 PM, and upon arriving at the 1500 block of N 13th Street, officers found the teenagers in urgent need of medical attention. A third teen, a 16-year-old who was also in the car, escaped uninjured, as reported by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
Quick to respond, EMS teams rushed the victims to the hospital. The driver, found in stable condition, suffered from a single gunshot wound. Tragically ridden with multiple bullet injuries, the front passenger was listed in critical but stable condition. The youths provided various conflicting accounts of the night's chaos, leaving authorities to piece together the truth.
An ongoing investigation into the shooting revealed that the violent incident may have originated on the 1400 block of N 10th Street. Their vehicle came under fire as they drove through that area, according to the preliminary findings released. It was after their car was hit by gunfire that the teenagers made their way to a local gas station on N 13th Street, seeking help for their wounds and contacting the police.
As the neighborhood grapples with the reality of this violence, the local community and authorities alike seek answers and justice. The police department urges anyone with information related to the shooting to step forward, in hopes of piecing together the fragmented testimonies provided by the teens. According to a statement obtained by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the investigation is ongoing, and no suspects have been named at this time.
