The scene unfolded at the Gateway Apartments, where Snohomish County sheriff's deputies discovered the two boys with wounds that bore the heavy toll of street violence. The younger boy's condition was dire, suffering life-threatening injuries, while the teenager's injuries were not considered life-threatening, a dichotomy of fate that plays no favorites when gun violence tears through the fabric of a community. As revealed by the Seattle Times, the 17-year-old was treated and released from Providence Regional Medical Center Everett; however, the 11-year-old required critical care, leading to an airlift to Harborview Medical Center.
The genesis of this calamity seems rooted in an act of vandalism, as detectives noted the victims were amidst a group engaged in spray-painting graffiti on a nearby building. Suddenly, a 20-year-old man emerged, intent on delivering destruction by opening fire and subsequently fleeing on a scooter, as per information gathered by KOMO News. The suspect's flight from justice was brief, with law enforcement witnessing his attempted escape near the 11900 block of 37th Drive SE.
Evidence discarded during his flight, the suspect threw a handgun onto the ground before his eventual surrender to authorities. He now faces the heavy mantle of accountability, booked into the Snohomish County jail for investigation of two counts of first-degree assault.
