An individual was rushed to the hospital after being found unconscious in the waters of Lake Michigan yesterday evening. The person was discovered by a boater approximately five miles south of the South Haven Lighthouse, as reported by FOX 17.
The boater, unable to retrieve the individual from the water, managed to secure a flotation device to the person, ensuring their safety until rescue could arrive. South Haven Area Emergency Services officials stated that their team was dispatched around 6 p.m. and reached the scene to subsequently attempt a rescue, according to information obtained by WZZM 13.
Members of SHAES swam approximately 500 yards from 20th Avenue in South Haven Township to get to the victim. Other responders arrived at the scene by boat, as detailed in a report by WOOD TV. Once the person was pulled from the lake, emergency services immediately began to administer CPR, continuing the life-saving efforts until they reached the shore.
The individual's condition post-rescue has not been disclosed, and their identity has remained unrevealed by first responders as of now. After being taken out of the lake, they were transported to Bronson-South Haven Hospital for further treatment.
