In a welcome move for community engagement and historical reflection, Utah State University is set to mark Juneteenth with a community barbecue and a special concert. According to USU Today, the Center for Community at USU is extending an invitation to students, faculty, staff, and the public to partake in a celebratory event scheduled for June 19 at Bridger Park, Logan.
The upcoming fete is slated to commence at 5 p.m. and continue until 8:30 p.m., offering attendees a chance to fully immerse themselves in the historical significance of Juneteenth. Commemorative activities will include African drumming and stepping performances, coupled with live storytelling and music, rounding out an experience intended to educate as much as entertain. A complimentary BBQ meal will also be available, on a first-come-first-served basis, ensuring no one has to miss out on the culinary delights, complete with vegetarian options.
The institution's commemoration does not end with the barbecue. In an echo of commitment to recognizing Juneteenth, the USU Alumni Band is to present a part of their summer concert series dedicated to the holiday. "A portion of the concert will feature musical selections to honor the spirit of Juneteenth," directed by Lane Weaver, as per USU Today. The performance will take place on June 22 at 7 p.m. on the USU Quad.
