In a move that is as strategic as it is a nod to sheer talent, Utah's own Devyn Wiest has secured her position on USA Volleyball's Girls U19 World Championship roster. As these young athletes from all over the nation converged in Colorado Springs from June 1-7, the competition to represent the stars and stripes was nothing short of fierce.
The University of Utah must be doing something right because Wiest wasn't the only Ute who impressed. Alongside her on the journey is associate head coach Alyssa D'Errico, who will be lending her expertise as an assistant coach to the squad. Utah volleyball is certainly planting its flag on an international stage, and frankly, nobody's complaining.
According to Utahutes.com, head Utah Volleyball coach Beth Launiere shared her excitement about Wiest's selection, "This is an amazing opportunity for Devyn. Anytime you can play internationally with, and against the best players in the world in your age group, it makes you a better player. Devyn is motivated to be the best, and I know she will take full advantage of her time with the USA U19 team and represent Utah Volleyball at a high level. We couldn't be prouder of her and excited for this opportunity."
Before the team takes to the courts in Croatia from July 2-13 to defend their 2023 title, there's more prep work to be done. Wiest and D'Errico will be off to the Netherlands for a critical training stint from June 26-30.
