Drivers on Interstate 95 South experienced significant delays due to a vehicle fire at Racetrack Road in St. Johns County. Two southbound lanes were closed as a result of the incident. First responders from the St. Johns County Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene, and it was confirmed that there were no injuries, according to the First Coast News.
A viewer's photograph captured by News4JAX showed the vehicle fully engulfed in flames, causing all southbound lanes to be initially blocked as of 1:25 p.m. The closures caused traffic to back up considerably, with delays extending to State Road 9B. By 1:35 p.m., one right lane remained closed, but the situation improved as all lanes reopened by 2:30 p.m., and the burned-out car was towed from the site.
In a separate but related incident, a single-vehicle crash led to another fire on I-95, this time near Stirling Road. The WSVN reports indicated that several southbound lanes were blocked following the accident. Responding Florida Highway Patrol and Fire Rescue units arrived at the scene after the vehicle caught fire post-collision. The Hollywood Fire Rescue transported a female passenger to a nearby hospital.
Traffic was heavily impacted, with significant congestion observed from air by 7Skyforce, who reported miles of queueing vehicles. Commuters faced extended travel times as authorities worked to clear both scenes and restore normal flow. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes where possible and to expect delays throughout the afternoons as investigations and cleanup continued.
