The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) has recently disclosed some significant shift in its leadership ranks, with the departure of Lt. Nicole Powell who is set to become the Assistant Chief of Investigations for the Seattle Police Department, as per NOPD's announcement. With a career in law enforcement spanning 23 years, Powell has worn many hats, from investigative tasks to leadership roles, most notably overseeing the NOPD’s Recruitment and Applicant Investigation Section where she worked tirelessly to enhance the recruitment process and elevate the caliber of police candidates entering the Training Academy.
This move mobilizes a wealth of experience towards the Pacific Northwest, where Lt. Powell besides her NOPD tenure, contributed as an adjunct professor at Loyola University of New Orleans, educating future generations in police community relations and behaviors and acted as a senior advisor for the Department of Justice’s International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program, her multifaceted involvement reflecting a broad dedication to law enforcement and community dynamics.
According to a statement from NOPD, Superintendent Anne E. Kirkpatrick emphasized Powell’s preparation for higher stakes, saying, “Lt. Powell’s extensive training and service history with the NOPD has provided her with the tools necessary to lead and thrive in a career or law enforcement.” Kirkpatrick also stressed that NOPD’s nurturing of pivotal leadership skills is evident in Powell’s new opportunity and extended a heart-felt thank you alongside wishes for her continued success in Seattle.
