A Volusia County man has been taken into custody by authorities in connection with the 2021 death of his two-month-old son. 27-year-old Donovan Winter was arrested on charges of murder and child abuse.

According to WFTV, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey stated that the arrest was the result of a combined effort between the Brevard County Sheriff's Office and the GAMEOVER Task Force, along with assistance from the US Marshals. Deputies initially responded to the Merritt Island residence on June 1, 2021, where Winter's son was found dead.

Following an autopsy conducted by the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office, it was determined that the infant died from multiple blunt-impact head injuries. The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office subsequently identified Winter as responsible for the injuries that led to the tragic outcome.

In a statement disclosed by WESH, the BCSO detailed, "The victim was taken to the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy determined that the male victim had died from multiple blunt-impact head injuries." The investigation pointed to Winter, who is the father of the baby, as the person responsible for the deadly injuries.

Authorities are urging anyone with further information about this case to come forward. Tips can be directed to Agent Vince Bustillo of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit at (321) 633-8413 or anonymously through Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.
