An elderly couple was hospitalized following an alleged assault by their son in Waikiki. The incident, which took place Sunday evening just after 4 p.m., involved a 64-year-old woman and her 77-year-old husband being attacked, allegedly by their 29-year-old son. The son purportedly used a hammer to inflict serious injuries on his parents, as reported by KITV and Hawaii News Now.

After the assault, the couple received wounds to their heads and hands and were quickly taken to a nearby emergency room in serious condition. The suspect, following the incident, had left to suddenly disappear before police officers eventually located him. The Honolulu Police Department arrested the man near a Walmart on Keaeaumoku St. at around 6:40 p.m., according to KITV.

Hawaii News Now reported the assault happened at the Moana Vista Apartments on Ala Moana Boulevard. The 29-year-old was subsequently arrested for Attempted Murder in the First Degree and faces multiple attempted murder charges. The suspect was apprehended and taken into custody at around 6:50 p.m. on Sunday, seemingly not far from the initial crime scene.

The charges against the suspect will be sought with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, as per HPD’s update. At this time, the investigation by the Honolulu police is ongoing and no further information has been released regarding the motivation behind the attack or the current condition of the parents, as per Hawaii News Now.
