The Washington County Sheriff's Office has issued a notification alerting the community of the upcoming release of a convicted sex offender, Roland Maanga, slated for today. Detailed in a social media post by the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Maanga, who has served his sentence for the conviction of Possession of Child Pornography and Exposing a Child to Harmful Materials in 2015, will be under probation until June 17, 2026.
Following his release, Maanga is to reside at 1725 Cth NN in the Township of Jackson, as per the Sheriff's Office. The statement emphasizes that the intent of the notification is not to increase fear, but to promote safety through public awareness. "This sex offender has served the prison sentence imposed on him by the courts. He is NOT wanted by law enforcement at this time," the Washington County Sheriff's Office clarifies. The community is informed under Wisconsin Statute 301.46(2m), which grants law enforcement the discretion to inform public when it could enhance public safety.
Maanga's post-release conditions include a series of rules and restrictions, such as the wearing of a live tracking GPS unit, designed to enable monitoring by the WI-DOC Division of Community. The Sheriff’s Office assures that Maanga will be under close observation to ensure compliance with these terms.
It is stated that the Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Law has enabled law enforcement to disclose such information to the community, contextualizing this particular notification within broader legislative frameworks. "Sex offenders have always lived in our communities; but it was not until the Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Law was enacted that law enforcement was able to share this information with the community," reads an excerpt from the Washington County Sheriff's Office's post.
