In a routine that's become all too familiar across the nation, the scammers have taken to contacting people through calls, text messages, or emails, menacing them with the false narrative that they are delinquent on ticket payments. According to a recent Facebook post from the Waukesha PD, these tricksters not only claim the existence of these fictitious dues, they also strong-arm the targets with threats of arrest or further penalties if they don't comply by forking over money stat.
"The police will never demand payment over the phone or via prepaid cards, wire transfers, or gift cards," assured the Waukesha PD in their cautionary message. The department has also made it clear that legitimate notifications of unpaid tickets will always arrive via official mail, or one can verify them through direct contact with the court or the appropriate local agency.
