A tragic industrial accident claimed the life of a 24-year-old Wayland man in Ludington, Michigan, yesterday. According to FOX17, the Ludington Police Department reported receiving a call around 10:15 a.m. concerning an incident that occurred at the intersection of West Ludington Avenue and Robert Street. The initial investigation revealed that the man was operating a boom lift and inadvertently came into contact with live electrical lines, resulting in his falling approximately 30 feet to the ground.

The series of events leading up to the fatality is still being pieced together, but preliminary findings suggest that the lift, for reasons still unknown, brought the man tragically close to the hazardous lines. Despite attempts to safely operate within the perimeters of daily labor, sometimes grave misfortunes simply cannot be predicted or prevented. The man was an employee of a gutter installation company based in Ada, as noted by WZZM13.

First responders arriving on the scene encountered the man unresponsive and not breathing. Ludington police officers, Mason County Sheriff's deputies, and two citizens commenced lifesaving efforts until relieved by the City of Ludington's Fire Department and Life EMS paramedics. Despite the valiant efforts of all, the man was pronounced dead at a local hospital. "Officers found the Wayland man unresponsive and not breathing," MLive reported.

To enable first responders to operate safely in the area, Consumers Energy took decisive action to shut down power to the downtown area. The Ludington Police Department continues to investigate the accident and has asked anyone with information to come forward. In a plea for community cooperation, Det. Jacob Miller can be reached by email at [email protected] or by telephone at (231) 843-3425, should anyone have details to share concerning the incident.
