The Weber County Sheriff's Office is in mourning after the sudden loss of one of its own, K-9 Nova, who died from an unexpected medical condition while she was undergoing narcotics detection certification. Only "just shy of 2 years old," the promising young dog's passing was reported by KUTV as leaving a gap in the department where she was being trained to serve and protect.
According to KSL, Nova had been showing "tremendous promise" in her training. Performing in the narcotics detection course, her skills were unfolding, set apart from her counterparts, before her untimely death. Nova was not just a K-9 in training but was also a cherished pet and member of Deputy Nielsen's family, spoiled with love and care inside the boundaries of a home where the family deeply cherished her.
As tributes pour in, the sense of loss is palpable throughout the sheriff's office. "Nova was more than just a partner in service — she was a beloved member of Deputy Nielsen’s family, where she was deeply cherished and udoubtedly spoiled with love and care," according to Weber County Sheriff's Office, as obtained by ABC4. When Nova died, not only did a deputy lose a partner, but a family also lost a member.
