The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has announced that Highway 101 at Hearn Avenue will be closed as part of an overcrossing replacement project. Starting June 20 and again over the night of June 21, those navigating through this area will need to follow detours set in place to accommodate the demolition of the old overpass.

The word is that this closure will indeed create significant interruptions to the usual traffic flow. Caltrans is planning to demolish the old overcrossing quickly. Both northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 101 will be closed, starting at 8:00 PM on Friday and Saturday evenings, and reopen the following mornings, Saturday at 8:00 AM and Sunday at 9:00 AM. To bypass the construction, northbound drivers should plan to exit at Yolanda Avenue, while their southbound counterparts must exit at Baker Avenue.

Citing information from Caltrans, additional ramps will be closed during the freeway closure. These include the northbound Highway 101 on-ramp from Yolanda Avenue and the southbound equivalent from Baker Avenue. Detours will redirect traffic through local streets, ensuring vehicles can safely re-enter the highway post-junction.
