On Tuesday night, a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian under possible circumstances of domestic violence left one man severely injured in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates. The Hawaii Island police apprehended 22-year-old Alaina Kainoa-Aukai, who was identified at the scene as the driver and appeared to be under the influence.

Following the incident near Princess Kaiulani Boulevard, and Lotus Blossom Lane, Kainoa-Aukai was arrested and is facing charges including first-degree negligent injury, and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant. Furthermore, she has been charged with first-degree assault against a law enforcement officer after becoming combative, kicking an officer multiple times during her arrest.

The injured pedestrian, speculated to be the boyfriend of Kainoa-Aukai, was promptly taken to Kona Community Hospital to receive care for his substantial injuries. According to the police report, additional investigative efforts by the Area II Juvenile Aid Section detectives are underway to reach a full understanding of the relationship between the collision and the alleged domestic violence.
