This morning, the peace of Pittsburgh's Crafton Heights neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. According to WPXI, police were alerted to the 1400 block of Chartiers Avenue at around 4:27 a.m., responding to a two-round ShotSpotter notification. Arriving on the scene, they discovered a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside an SUV.
Shot before dawn, the unidentified woman was quickly transported to a hospital, where, shortly after 5 a.m., she was pronounced dead, as reported by WPXI. ShotSpotter, the technology that detected the gunfire, provides police with a real-time acoustic surveillance system designed to identify and locate shooting incidents rapidly.
At the scene of the crime, found with wounds to her torso, the woman's death marks another instance of senseless violence plaguing our streets. WTAE reported that the woman was pronounced dead right in the vehicle, a sobering testament to the severity of the attack.
